Heart of the Forest
Protect forests around the world, as well as the people who depend on them by replanting in areas affected by deforestation, protecting the forests that continue to exist and developing the fair trade industries, so that trees that are still standing are of more value than those that are cut down!
OBJECTIVE: PLACE PEOPLE AND NATURE AT THE HEART OF THE SYSTEM!
Since 2005 we have been combining reforestation and the development of fair trade industries for the development of a virtuous economic model. We started from the simple and yet revolutionary idea that “if the economy is destroying the forest, only the economy can save it”. For over 10 years, the association’s teams have been working to regenerate damaged areas, train inhabitants in agro-forestry, create new fair trade industries and press for the commercialisation of products produced by our partner cooperatives. In this way, we bring about a development model that generates revenue for all. The result: ten projects have come into being around the world (Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, Cameroon, Senegal, Madagascar, Indonesia, France), more than 400 000 trees have been planted, 19 455 beneficiaries have been supported and 26 fair trade organic products from forest collection or agro-forestry farming (vegetable oils, essential oils, perfume, honey, spices) are manufactured by 7 communities in 6 countries worldwide and sold locally and internationally (France, USA…). Help us to do even better this year!
FROM AN ALARMING ASSESSMENT TO A SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY!
In the early 2000s, several trips led to encounters with the populations living in the Amazonian forest of Brazil. Further to the progressive deforestation of their lands, they lost their sovereignty and the possibility to develop. In response to this situation, the association was founded to support these endangered populations and to preserve their environment and their traditions. We offer technical support in creating nurseries and agro-forestry farms, in transforming them into vegetable and essential oils and finally in marketing locally and exporting depending on demand within the country and internationally.
OBJECTIVE 2017: TO CHANGE THE SCALE OF THE PROJECTS
The projects have come to a stage of maturity and 2017 promises to be a fruitful year. Over all of the projects, we foresee 10 000 trees planted, the creation of new organic and fair trade product lines that come from the forests with the first vanilla harvests in Masoala (Madagascar) and the production of one tonne of honey in Bolivia.
ONE COEUR DE FORET KIT = 1 TREE PLANTED AND A SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY CREATED
The collection on Lilo will finance Coeur de Forêt Tree Kits for all of our tree-planting projects: Bolivia, Madagascar, Indonesia and France. Trees are at the heart of our thought process: they perform many environmental, economic and social services including vital services such as the production of oxygen in the air we breathe and in our food, the protection of water resources, the synthesis of many medicines and the storage of atmospheric CO² that we have difficulty regulating. Furthermore, 1.6 billion people live in, depend on and directly draw their income from the forest.
Distribution of donations as a percentage:
30% for planting the tree (growing, maintenance, follow-up)
50% support to development (building infrastructures, purchasing processing material: stills, vegetable presses, extractors...)
20% for the headquarters (coordination, project engineering, support for marketing of the projects)
Our development model allows us to guarantee that the tree that is planted through our projects will be watched over and preserved in the long term, because by giving greater importance to the tree that is standing rather than the tree that is felled is how we can protect it. The economic activity generated by fair trade industries for the partner populations encourages the protection of replanted forest areas.
