Put disadvantaged communities back into economy by creating very small-scale sustainable farms
For 23 years, Agrisud has supported the creation of profitable and durable TPE family farms, through measures of professionalization and assisting people in precarious situations. Agrisud is present in 18 countries on 4 continents.
None of us at Agrisud accept the idea that today, 1.4 billion people should live in poverty, with great difficulty feeding themselves daily. We are convinced that one answer to this situation is to bring these people into the economic circuit, by helping them to succeed. Agrisud thus creates, reinforces and preserves TPE family farms, enabling businesses that are as viable as they are economically profitable, and which are as resilient as they are agroecological.
In 23 years, Agrisud has created 45 000 TPEs, representing 160 000 durable jobs, thus bringing 424 000 people out of poverty. In 2014 alone, these 45 000 TPEs were able to produce 276 000 tons of food, generating 64 million in net revenue and sequestering 14 400 tons of carbon.
Today, we wish to multiply our impact, with the objective of creating 30 000 new TPEs over the next 5 years. Help us achieve this goal!
Creating one TPE costs 1 300 euros. With your help, you could facilitate, for example, the creation of a 1 to 2 hectare viable farm in North Kivu (Democratic Republic of Congo) or in Haiti, regions often afflicted by conflict or natural catastrophe, and thus you would help peasants rise from poverty by allowing them to invest in a sustainable agricultural activity by finding a place in the local market. We would allow very poor Cambodian women to create a small truck farm of 1 000 m2 on the outskirts of Siem-Reap, which would insert itself into a grouping of producers and would set up the local market for the short term. Additionally, you would help breeders from southern Morocco to gain autonomy thanks to the breeding of two dozen sheep.
